Patent
Law Essentials : A Concise Guide -- Alan L. Durham; concise,
up-to-date survey of U.S. patent law uses examples, many from actual cases,
to explain the various aspects of the patent system, including issues of
patent validity, infringement, the application process, and litigation.
Although many large multi-volume patent treatises are already available,
this book will serve as a useful overview or starting point for further
research. Patent claim interpretation, equivalence, prior art, and the
extension of patent protection to non-traditional subject matter such as
computer software are covered in detail. Appendixes contain sample U.S.
patents.

Copyright & Trademark: A Desk Reference to Intellectual Property Law
-- Stephen Elias, Lisa Goldoftas
- "Intellectual property law is more than merely a specialty of
interest to lawyers; it's supremely relevant to writers, musicians, and
inventors, designers, artists, and programmers--anyone who creates
something that can and ought to be protected against unauthorized use.
Attorney Stephen Elias accomplishes a number of worthy goals in his desk
reference. He introduces and explains the concepts and issues involved in
intellectual property, then delves into the thick of Trade Secret Law,
Copyright Law, Patent Law, and Trademark Law, defining terms, citing (and
explaining) important statutes, and providing sample forms. Accessible to
the novice yet rigorously detailed for use with specific clauses in
specific contracts, Elias's work demystifies intellectual property law and
levels the legal playing field". --Stephanie Gold // amazon

- Martha Stewart / Paperback / Published 1994 ---
THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK
Nobody
knows the holidays like Martha Stewart, and here she gives you
all the information you need to have a spectacular Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and New Year's Eve. Martha and her crew provide you
with a hearty Thanksgiving feast featuring Quail with Brussels Sprouts and
Shallots, Garlic Roast Potatoes, and Roast Fennel. Later she offers up a
tasty but simple family breakfast for Christmas morning and a sumptuous
Christmas dinner centered around a Loin of Venison with Red-Currant
Bordelaise and Roast Capon with Wild Rice Sourdough Stuffing. The lower-key
New Year's Eve dinner of five dishes may be more appealing to kitchen
novices.
Even if you're not planning a huge party, you'll still find the book
useful for more simple ideas--chapters on homemade gifts, gift-wrapping, and
wreaths and garlands provide easy-to-follow directions and lots of advice.
The chapter on cookies features 23 different classics, and another chapter
offers recipes for six pies plus tips on their assembly and even a list of
"our favorite baking apples." Throughout the book you'll find
interesting sidebars and beautiful photographs to tempt and inspire you.
Maybe you're a new convert, maybe you missed one of the fabled Martha
Stewart Living holiday issues, or maybe your copies are too dog-eared to
read anymore--Holidays: The Best of Martha Stewart Living will help

Cranium
for your Brainum:
Spell a word backwards, hum a tune, answer a multiple-choice question, draw with
your eyes closed, and more when you play Cranium. Unlike games that focus on
only a few skills, Cranium offers 14
talent-tapping activities designed to bring out the best in you and your
friends. Cards from four decks, color-coded to match each of the
crazy characters--Star Performer, Creative Cat, Data Head, and Word
Worm--describe activities that teams must complete in order to advance around
the board. If you choose a Sculptorades card from the Creative Cat deck, for
example, you might be asked to sculpt a hamburger from lemon-scented Cranium
Clay while your teammates try to guess what you're creating. To win the game, teams have to make it to Cranium
Central--the large purple brain in the center of the board--and then
successfully complete one activity from each of the four decks. The
result is that the team with the best combination of abilities comes out on top.
With its wonderfully diverse set of activities and top-notch design (artwork by
illustrator Gary Baseman decorates the colorful board and decks of cards),
Cranium offers the best of all board game experiences--and it's a whole lot of
fun, too! (For 4 or more players) -
A GREAT POST TRIVIA PARTY GAME

This is it folks: SEGA
DREAMCAST - THE DREAM MACHINE
IF YOU (or your kids) DON'T HAVE IT ...
YOU ARE MISSIN OUT BIG TIME
The Dreamcast
system is, in a word, awesome. Really, it inspires awe. The first
time someone fires up the game Soul Calibur and realizes that the graphics and
gameplay are better than the arcade version, they're likely to faint. And
Sonic Adventure, with its lightspeed gameplay, is sure to wow even the most
jaded gamer--one part of the game consists of a richly detailed 3-D racetrack
suspended in the funnel of a raging tornado!
It's amazing that such a small machine (it's about the size of your mousepad)
can deliver such incredible performance. Chalk it up to superior engineering.
Dreamcast's only downside is that it comes with only one controller and a demo
disc. In order to truly take advantage of Dreamcast's capabilities, we recommend
outfitting the controller with a Jump Pack and a Visual Memory Unit. Getting one
or more extra controllers is also a good idea, since some of the best Dreamcast
games support up to four players at once.
Why it's so cool:
- Great games: Soul Calibur. Hydro Thunder. The House of the Dead 2.
Arcade smash hits and Dreamcast exclusives. And Dreamcast has a lot
of games available at launch--more than any other video game system debut in
history.
- Ultramodern components: Custom-made video, audio, and processor
technology enable Dreamcast to look, sound, and play better than any other
console system around. It even puts arcade machines to shame.
- Integrated modem: In another video game first, Dreamcast comes with
a 56K modem. Use your regular Internet service provider and the optional
keyboard to access e-mail, shopping, and the World Wide Web. At launch, you
can upload high scores, participate in chat discussions, download updates
and enhancements for your games, and swap virtual pets. Multiplayer games
and massive online wars are already on Sega's drawing board for this year.
We can't wait to see what else Sega has in store for the online Dreamcast
community.
- The Visual Memory Unit (VMU) More than just a memory card, the VMU
is a miniature portable game system that fits inside a controller--so its
LCD screen is easily seen by you but hidden from your opponent.
- Super GD-ROM: Dreamcast's CD-ROM drive is actually a GD-ROM drive
that's capable of reading gigabyte-capacity discs. It's also twelve times as
fast as a normal drive, which means faster game load times, shorter waits,
and less disc-swapping during play. Of course, it also plays audio CDs.
- Expandability: Sega's machine is the first major video game console
designed with the future in mind. New technology can easily be added to
Dreamcast through its expansion slot and serial port. A Dreamcast-compatible
Zip drive is already available in Japan, and it's a safe bet that Sega has
even more cool hardware on the way.
- Keyboard: Computer game players complain that video games don't
offer enough complexity because the machines lack keyboards. Dreamcast opens
the gates to deeper, more complex games by allowing more control and input
options. Think of it this way: the controller has six buttons, and the
keyboard has 92 keys. Games can make use of each key, increasing the
number of controls by a factor of fifteen. The keyboard also lets you
compose e-mail messages when accessing the Internet through Dreamcast's
modem.
- All-in-one entertainment: It plays games. It plays audio CDs. It
connects to the Internet and lets you browse the Web or e-mail friends. Our
note to the cost-conscious: If you have a Dreamcast system, you just don't
need a separate CD player or a separate computer. Dreamcast does it all, and
does it well.
