Cranium for your Brainum:

Spell a word backwards, hum a tune, answer a multiple-choice question, draw with your eyes closed, and more when you play Cranium. Unlike games that focus on only a few skills, Cranium offers 14 talent-tapping activities designed to bring out the best in you and your friends. Cards from four decks, color-coded to match each of the crazy characters--Star Performer, Creative Cat, Data Head, and Word Worm--describe activities that teams must complete in order to advance around the board. If you choose a Sculptorades card from the Creative Cat deck, for example, you might be asked to sculpt a hamburger from lemon-scented Cranium Clay while your teammates try to guess what you're creating.

To win the game, teams have to make it to Cranium Central--the large purple brain in the center of the board--and then successfully complete one activity from each of the four decks. The result is that the team with the best combination of abilities comes out on top. With its wonderfully diverse set of activities and top-notch design (artwork by illustrator Gary Baseman decorates the colorful board and decks of cards), Cranium offers the best of all board game experiences--and it's a whole lot of fun, too! (For 4 or more players)  - A GREAT POST TRIVIA PARTY GAME

Cranium Booster Box 1:  Read this:  "In response to overwhelming customer demand, we - the wacky crew at Cranium Central - have created Cranium Booster Box 1. Booster Box is bursting with 800 all-new cards for the Cranium game. We promise that Booster Box is more outrageous, more challenging, and more hilarious than ever. To recharge your Cranium game, simply mix in, or replace your original game cards with Cranium Booster Box 1 for hours of more fun!"

This is it folks:  SEGA DREAMCAST  -  THE DREAM MACHINE

IF YOU (or your kids)  DON'T HAVE IT  ... YOU ARE MISSIN OUT BIG TIME

The Dreamcast system is, in a word, awesome. Really, it inspires awe. The first time someone fires up the game Soul Calibur and realizes that the graphics and gameplay are better than the arcade version, they're likely to faint. And Sonic Adventure, with its lightspeed gameplay, is sure to wow even the most jaded gamer--one part of the game consists of a richly detailed 3-D racetrack suspended in the funnel of a raging tornado!

It's amazing that such a small machine (it's about the size of your mousepad) can deliver such incredible performance. Chalk it up to superior engineering. Dreamcast's only downside is that it comes with only one controller and a demo disc. In order to truly take advantage of Dreamcast's capabilities, we recommend outfitting the controller with a Jump Pack and a Visual Memory Unit. Getting one or more extra controllers is also a good idea, since some of the best Dreamcast games support up to four players at once.

Why it's so cool:

  • Great games: Soul Calibur. Hydro Thunder. The House of the Dead 2. Arcade smash hits and Dreamcast exclusives. And Dreamcast has a lot of games available at launch--more than any other video game system debut in history.
  • Ultramodern components: Custom-made video, audio, and processor technology enable Dreamcast to look, sound, and play better than any other console system around. It even puts arcade machines to shame.
  • Integrated modem: In another video game first, Dreamcast comes with a 56K modem. Use your regular Internet service provider and the optional keyboard to access e-mail, shopping, and the World Wide Web. At launch, you can upload high scores, participate in chat discussions, download updates and enhancements for your games, and swap virtual pets. Multiplayer games and massive online wars are already on Sega's drawing board for this year. We can't wait to see what else Sega has in store for the online Dreamcast community.
  • The Visual Memory Unit (VMU) More than just a memory card, the VMU is a miniature portable game system that fits inside a controller--so its LCD screen is easily seen by you but hidden from your opponent.
  • Super GD-ROM: Dreamcast's CD-ROM drive is actually a GD-ROM drive that's capable of reading gigabyte-capacity discs. It's also twelve times as fast as a normal drive, which means faster game load times, shorter waits, and less disc-swapping during play. Of course, it also plays audio CDs.
  • Expandability: Sega's machine is the first major video game console designed with the future in mind. New technology can easily be added to Dreamcast through its expansion slot and serial port. A Dreamcast-compatible Zip drive is already available in Japan, and it's a safe bet that Sega has even more cool hardware on the way.
  • Keyboard: Computer game players complain that video games don't offer enough complexity because the machines lack keyboards. Dreamcast opens the gates to deeper, more complex games by allowing more control and input options. Think of it this way: the controller has six buttons, and the keyboard has 92 keys. Games can make use of each key, increasing the number of controls by a factor of fifteen. The keyboard also lets you compose e-mail messages when accessing the Internet through Dreamcast's modem.
  • All-in-one entertainment: It plays games. It plays audio CDs. It connects to the Internet and lets you browse the Web or e-mail friends. Our note to the cost-conscious: If you have a Dreamcast system, you just don't need a separate CD player or a separate computer. Dreamcast does it all, and does it well.
